Betting Terminology/Dictionary
Here I will post any terminology that is used on the forums or by me in my posts. Feel free to mail me any more. Other peoples interpretations of these phrases may be different so I cannot be held responsible for any betting actions made from reading this or any other post on this site.
To do ones conkers - to lose money (usually a significant sum)
Overs/Unders - refers to the under/over 2.5 goals market in football. If someone thinks the match will be overs, they think there will be at least 3 goals
Dot - used in cricket when a ball has been bowled with out a run being scored
Accy - short for accumulator where the bettor has picked multiple teams to win. If one wins then the winnings are then put on the next one etc. If a selection loses then the bet is a loser.
Banker - usually when a person thinks something is a banker he is certain it will win. Beware who you listen to on the Betfair forum though.
Arb - where you can back both selections and make a profit. Normally done with different bookies
Drifting - if a price starts at 2.1 and moves to 2.3 it is said to be drifting
Shortening - the opposite of drifting, can also be reffered to as "coming in"
All Green - where a person will make a profit whatever the outcome
All Red - where a person will make a loss whatever the outcome
Layoff - what traders do to secure an all green or all red book. To layoff is to back or lay against your original selection to lock in profit or escape with a loss on all outcomes
Nap - if someone offers advice as their nap it means that they think that this is the best bet of the day
Odds on - when a price is 1.99 or less
Odds against - when the price is 2.01 or higher
Evens - when the price is 2.0
Flip flop - when and event has two outcomes the price of one competitor goes from odds against to odds on and the other competitor goes from odds on to odds against. i.e. if England are batting at cricket and the price is 2.06 against India 1.96, England then score a 4 then the price may move to Eng 1.98 to India 2.02, this is known as a flip flop

Missed opportunities and a possible fix?
Todays Profit 98.69
It started as a very frustrating day trading wise, so I am delighted to be showing a profit again today.
I had a win on the Innings runs on the cricket of about 50 quid, I then gave it back in the second half when Sri Lanka were chasing Englands total. I had initially backed England then quickly changed my mind, I still dont know why as a wicket would have seen the England price drop sharply. Inevitably this happened and I couldnt really get back on. I decided to let my loss run, as I would risk getting bigger red on England and we all know they arent the greatest of one day teams.
After that I turned to tennis, traded the Ivanovic v Bondanerenko match well. She was 1 set down so got on at 1.65 knowing that there would be a good swing in her price if she was to break or hold serve. This happened and she was quickly trading at sub 1.3 (I think she started the match around 1.0x) The good thing in tennis is that if favourites have a bad first set there are huge fluctuations in price if they start to do well. Anyway got out at 1.25 and went for lunch just after she won the second set feeling pretty pleased with myself, couldnt believe it when I came back and she had lost. Got 47 out of it but had a bigger green if she had won.
I went on to lose 42 of that on the Jankovic match, started off on her and then panicked as I had to go out so laid off to have a red on both sides. She ended up winning but I wouldnt risk leaving an open position.
As I said in an earlier post I am on holiday in Spain at the moment at my girlfriends parents house so was meeting up with her and a friend for coffee. Was about 5 quid up on the day and it had seemed like I had been trading all day for no reward. The break did me good though and I got stuck in to the Murray match when I got back. Backed him at 1.4 and let it run, dont often do that but thought he would have too much for Llodra. Had a look at what I could steal in the UEFA Cup after that, backed Everton at 1.07 with 2 minutes to go, made 11 on u4.5 in the Blackburn game. Odds were at 1.12 with about 7 minutes left so bloody good in my book. The u3.5 market was trading around 1.37 at the time so could have got out with a small loss if a goal had went in before I had traded out. Then found a gift of a price of 1.05 for Larissa to qualify when it was the 90th minute and Blackburn needed two goals, so I lumped on there.
Picked up a tenner in the O´Sullivan v Davis match in the snooker, then had a shower. The Kholscriber v T´song match was still on in Stuttgart with T´song at 1.05 needing to win a game for the match. I wouldnt normally have got involved but had noticed the strange prices when looking at the market earlier in the match. Kohl was a set up and was trading at 1.9 for the beginning of his service games, now I didnt have pictures so wasnt able to see if there was anything physically wrong with him but in this situation I would have expected him to be around 1.4 or lower. I believe that they were quite close in the pricing at the start. Had a look at the Betfair forum and it wasnt just me that was thinking something funny was going on. I have seen matches before where the market holds someones price up and they go on to win but wasnt prepared to get involved here. Having lost his first point in a service game his odds went out to 2.16 considering he was a set up it was a bit strange. Anyway had a shower, saw that he had been beaten in a tie break for the second and was a break down in the third so I backed T´song at the short price, I traded out at 1.01 so at least I had my stake back if Betfair were going to investigate any irregular patterns. Anyway as I type there are forumites emailing the ATP and Betfair about possible match fixing. You normally get people calling every game a fix when they have done their conkers but they may have something to complain about here. Anyway Betfair settled and I have my profit.
Going to withdraw my profit and bring my bank back to 200 for tomorrows trading.
Good luck and stay profitable

Non Loading Tennis Markets
Todays Profit 78.82
Made a good profit again today, however I was a bit miffed that I couldnt access more than half the tennis markets that were in play. Apparently a few guys on the Betfair forum had a similar problem, and cited the fact that Betfair were trialling new software to improve the performance of the site. Dont get me wrong, I do like Betfair and companies do need to embrace technology, but as soon as these problems came to light in the morning, why did Betfair allow them to continue throughout the day?
Apparently other browsers were unaffected (I use firefox) but I wasnt about to download another browser so that I could trade tennis. At the moment I dont use any one click software either so I was stuck to using the markets that I could get open. The result was that I made a profit of 27.92 on tennis. I suppose that I shouldnt complain though as I may have lost if I had been able to get in to the markets.
Other than that I made just over 30 laying Valencia not long after Chelsea had equalised. At the time Chelsea were trading at about 4.1 and Valencia at 2.48. I didnt necessarily think that Chelsea would win, but I knew that they would be difficult to beat.
Later on I stole 19 on baseball in the last innings between Colorado and Philly.
I am now withdrawing 41 from my account and increasing my starting bank to 200.32. Sri Lanka are playing England in the second ODI tomorrow so hopefully should provide some good trading opportunities.
Good luck all

Excellent Start
Todays Profit - 162.50
Well I couldnt have asked for a much better start to the blog than this. All this after an initial loss of 49.30 loss on the Aus v India cricket match as well. India had started well at the start of their chase so I layed Aus at 1.44, the price rised quickly but after a couple of wickets I was looking at a loss. I let it run for longer than I should have and in the end I didnt bother trading out as I had turned my attention to the tennis.
Picked up 45 when I layed Guez v Mezler at evens. It was still in the first set and Mezler had started as fav but was a break down and not playing well. I figured that even if Mezler lost the first set then Guez would trade higher than evens. As it happened Mezler broke back when Guez was serving for the set and eventually went on to win 2-1. I had let this bet run as I was chasing my losses from the cricket, Guez`s price never threatened evens again so I was in control of the risk.
I moved on the the Bartoli v Radwanska match afterwards and backed Bartoli from the start 1.61, there are a lot of breaks in WTA so I was confident that I would be able to get a lower price during the first few games. As it happened Bartoli was on easy street winning 6-0 in the first set, and going a break up in the second, it was then that I layed out to have a green book of 47.23 for Bartoli and 42.79 for Radwanska. Bartoli looked unstoppable at this point but as I am currently on holiday at my girlfriends parents it was time for lunch, so I traded out. Wise move with Bartoli ending up a loser. I have learned over the years trading on Betfair that you should always trade out on womens tennis as matches can change dramatically and often do.
I went out for the rest of the afternoon and came back to trade some football, caught a few quid on Andrew Murray first and settled in to watch the Barcelona v Stuttgart match. Didnt get involved but saw an interesting price of 3.35 on Lyon when 1-0 down to Rangers at half time. I know that Rangers arent the greatest team in the Champions League this year but the Champions League it is and the price was asking to be laid. I was preparing to trade out when the price reached 5, and could have got out for a small loss if Lyon scored before that. Imagine my surprise when Rangers scored twice and I was able to add 26.63 to the coffers. As I traded out Barca had just scored, so I backed at 1.23 and watched them add another. Its not always my strategy to back teams at 1-0, but with Barca I was more than confident with their strength of depth up front. After that I dipped back in to the tennis to make a bit more profit.
Overall the good news today is that I have withdrawn my initial 100 so am now playing with profit.
Lesson to be learned today is from cricket. I need to do a bit more research before diving in to the market.
Thanks for reading and good luck.

Welcome
Hi there and welcome to the Traders Dream. I aim to log my progress over the coming months as I attempt to become debt free. I will be starting with a bank of 100 British Pounds, so it may take a long time. There are 3 credit cards, an overdraft and a student loan to pay off.
I will be trading on Betfair with the main focus being on football and tennis markets. As my bank is 100 I will be looking to double this and take out the initial stake and then trade with the profit. If I lose part of my bank then I will top up at the end of the trading day.
As profit hopefully increases I will aim to increase the starting bank accordingly. The long term objective will be to build up to a daily starting bank of 1000 and then withdraw daily anything above that amount. That is a long way ahead however and there will hopefully be many withdrawals before then.
